Children’s Program: Art for Kids

June, July, and August

Instructor: Bridget Mayak

$165

Children ages 6 to 14 can experience quality art instruction at Touchstone's Art for Kids program. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9am until 4 pm in June, July, and August. Children will explore the processes and create the products of both two- and three-dimensional art forms. Drawing, painting, sculpture, and various crafts will be linked to historical and cultural topics, and often to the adult program offerings. Instruction will be geared toward age, abilities, and interests of students.

Bridget Mayak is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and teaches art in the Somerset Area School District. She is coordinator of her department, and serves as site coordinator for various Artist-in-Residence programs, mentor to beginning teachers, and cooperating teacher for student teachers. She has recently been juried into Handmade Along the Highway. Her passions include pottery, metal sculpture, teaching, and Touchstone!

Veterans Initiative Program
In 2007 Touchstone launched the Veterans Initiative Program (VIP). Touchstone’s VIP is a scholarship-based outreach program created to provide tuition, room, and board for one week to Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans. Numerous studies have demonstrated that participation in the arts adds new dimensions to other activities and can help the healing process. Through Touchstone’s VIP, week-long scholarships will be offered to veterans who have completed their medical and rehabilitation treatments and are preparing to return to civilian life. The program will accommodate two veterans at a time for a five-day class or workshop of choice. Scholarship awardees will be nominated and sponsored by regional and community veterans groups as candidates who will benefit from participation in Touchstone’s programs. Call the Touchstone office for application material.
